Amino Acid- and Fatty Acid-Based Corrosion Inhibitors

Modern metal protection against corrosion increasingly relies on advanced surfactant compounds, including modified amino acids and fatty acid derivatives. This group includes compounds based on glutamates, sarcosinates, and phosphoric acid esters.

These solutions combine chemical and surface-active properties, allowing simultaneous protective, wetting, and cleaning effects. Thanks to their amphiphilic structure, the molecules strongly interact both with the aqueous phase and the metal surface.

What is Perlastan OCV

PERLASTAN OCV is a corrosion inhibitor based on oleoyl sarcosine. The compound is hydrophobic and acidic in nature. In practice, it is used as an additive for hydrophobic and hydrophilic formulations, as well as a component in products intended for direct contact with metals.

The product can be neutralized using monoethanolamine (MEA), triethanolamine (TEA), long-chain fatty amines, potassium hydroxide, or sodium hydroxide. Neutralization activates the amphiphilic properties, enhancing its effectiveness in aqueous and emulsion formulations.

Anti-Corrosion Mechanism

The effectiveness of PERLASTAN OCV results from chemisorption processes on the metal surface. Inhibitor molecules form a dense, organized monolayer that acts as a protective barrier. This layer limits access of oxygen, moisture, and aggressive chemical agents to the metal surface.

Even at low concentrations, the inhibitor provides stable protection. The product demonstrates good compatibility with oxidizing agents and chemical stability in highly alkaline environments.

Functional Properties

PERLASTAN OCV provides excellent surface wetting and cleaning properties. Its anionic nature allows easy integration into various formulation systems.

The product offers high effectiveness in preventing metal corrosion, chemical stability across a wide pH range, and compatibility with other industrial chemical components.

Composition and Technical Parameters

The active substance is oleoyl sarcosine (CAS 110-25-8, EINECS 203-749-3).

The product appears as a yellow-brown oil with a minimum of 90% active substance. The density at 20°C ranges from 0.95 to 0.97 g/mL.

pH of a 1% solution in 10% IPA is between 3.0 and 5.0. Acid value ranges from 153 to 163 mg KOH/g. Water content does not exceed 1%, and the maximum Gardner color number is 8.

Areas of Application

PERLASTAN OCV is used in the processing industry, in the protection of sheets used for ship hulls, and in formulations of cleaning agents, lubricants, oils, and fuels.

It can be applied in cleaning agents at concentrations of 1.0 to 5.0 percent. In industrial lubricants, the recommended concentration is 0.1 to 0.3 percent, while in conventional lubricants it is 0.1 to 0.5 percent. In rust-preventive fluids, it is used in the range of 0.5 to 1.0 percent, and in metalworking fluids from 0.05 to 1.0 percent.

Specialized Amino Acid-Based Agents

The group of modern corrosion inhibitors also includes compounds based on glutamates and sarcosinates, which exhibit surface-active properties and the ability to form protective layers on metals. Complementing this technology are fatty acid derivatives and phosphoric acid esters, which increase adhesion and durability of the protective coating.

The combination of these components allows the design of formulations tailored to specific working conditions, such as high humidity, the presence of salts, variable pH, or contact with fuels and oils.

Amino acid-based inhibitors provide an effective solution in modern industrial chemistry, combining metal protection efficiency with formulation flexibility and stability in demanding technological environments.
